Unregistered Tamils evicted from the Nuwara Eliya area

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

The President is scheduled to visit Nuwara Eliya to participate in several election related events and the security forces have informed all non residents to move out from the Nuwara Eliya City between the period of 18-20.

Tamil employees in hotels and officers have therefore been requested not to report to work during the stipulated period.

A general manager of a leading hotel in Nuwara Eliya said that such an incident had not taken place even during the war. However, he said that since there was no necessity to come into conflict with the security forces, the hotel had

granted all its non permanent residents a three day holiday during the period.
